ok so it’s been a good 12 days since my last post, but hey, life is hell.

got a 35/50 on the parallel processing test, which puts be 1 point behind the highest score. since boppana grades based on the entire coarse, that means i got basically a 99. if you’re on the CS network, check out the distrobution here. i kinda botched the last assignment, but i still have an A in the bag

got a near perfect on the concurrency test, which was cool, cause i didn’t have to do the actual redo.

now remember that project way back when where i wanted to do crystalRIP properly? well, i will have the chance this semester. i pitched the idea for my concurrency project, which dr. robbins loved. i will be doing the multi-threaded version of it for that coarse, and analyzing its performance. i also pitched the idea to dr. boppana and he loved it so much, he’s letting me do it with MPI. that’s kinda amazing since he said he didn’t want people to choose their assignment. “i’ll let you do this because i like the idea alot” is what he said to be when we had a meeting.

basically what this project will do is rip and encode a cd concurrently, either with pthreads or MPI. pretty nifty eh? class credit for a free-lance project of mine.

christmas is comin around, need to plan something. some people may be getting an invitation to something.

im supposed to be getting “a big bonus” for this holiday season, so hopefully that’ll mean i’ll get to get crystal that thing she has been asking about ;)

tonight i have to go back to austin, we’ll see if i have the energy to go downtown and take pictures. that reminds me, i need to start deciding what pictures should go into my portfolio.

man, i’ve been so damn busy, if i make it through this semester with an A average, there will be a bountiful feast fit for a king, but for all to share; if ya follow my drift. beer will flow like water, and food will be succulent.

i will make a post later tonight about my trials and tribulations with dvd burning in linux.

i just did the math, and if Moore’s Law holds true, in ~8 years, there will be terahertz machines on the market. i’m not sure if i find this believable, since well thats a fuck load of processing power….

aight, life’s been a tough lot recently. between school, and work, and crystal, i haven’t had time to even take a dump, but thankfully, that might be turning around.

so to catch everyone up (as if anyone reads this), here’s what’s been goin on in the last 2 or 3 weeks.

im behind on a project at work, and im starting to get the pressure from ye boss, and thats not cool.

i’m about to write bittorrent off as a pile of dung. it only works if there are plenty of leechers, and the official client is filled with bugs. i can’t even contemplate fixing python code as the idea of a language that forces indention just gives me a headache.

i have an updated cd listing availible for ya’ll to enjoy.

also, i made a nifty lil script to keep everyone updated as to the uptime of my webserver, im striving for it to break 2004. actually im not doing anything so it wouldn’t be right to say “strive”. anyways, go check it out. its at the bottom.

school was hell last week, and should be mild hell next week. 3 tests in 2 days i also have to have twice the work ready for photography on tuesday, 2 proposals for concurrency, and a tech physics 2 test on wed. the networks test was so-so, the concurrency test was a fuck in the ass, and the parallel processing test was so-so. the concurrency test was 1 question. the parallel test was supposed to be “easy,” but i dont see that happening.

im currently in the process of migrating to mplayer on my gentoo box. i really need those wmv codecs for the cowboy bebop series i have.

i dont know if anyone read this but it seems highly unlikely. i am still a firm believer that AI cannot exist. we’ve been working on it for the last 40+ years, and haven’t gotten anywhere.

actually, i think that site is interesting, but it seems more like fantasy rather than reality

i need to go work on my proposals now… laters

i haven’t posted in a while due to lack of thing happening aside from work, school, eat and sleeping. this week has been kinda slow, affording me some free time, SOME….

ok today was bit torrent’s trial of usage for me.

while i think it’s a novel idea, its majorly flawed in the idea that what you want to download HAS to be seeded and/or downloaded/uploaded by someone else. that’s not to assume their connection isn’t crap or they get disconnected.

the major problem i have with it though is it seems to be a HUGE cpu hog, i tried to do 3 simultaneous download/uploads, and that brought my 733 running stage 1 gentoo to a crawl. it’s a lil hard to believe, but it’s true.

i haven’t looked at the code to this, but i think bram cohen needs to do some rethinking.

also, i noticed that the gui version was just as bad as the headless and curses version. so i know it isnt the wxPython windowing toolkit. i wonder if it’s just bad code, or the python engine….

suprnova is an interesting site, i just wonder how long till they’re taken down….

i was told about another linux client to try out, but im unsure, especially if it’s a large c/c++ project, that might take a while to compile… but i dunno…

plus, python just sucks, python programmers should just admit they want to be perl programmers

speaking of perl, i came up with a way to improve bleech’s performance, and somewhat prevent the request starvation. i’ll be working on that this weekend, we’ll see if i can release a DESIGN_ISSUES article about it.

more as it develops
