well, this semester just got better! today we are leaving for florida. pensacola to be exact. we have a hotel on the beach, and lets face it, i want to be lazy.

we’re leaving at 6pm-ish, and we calculated that we’d be there for the continental breakfast at 9am-ish. we’re taking crystal’s parent’s exploder. i really need to get a tan while i enjoy a beer on the beach.

on thursday, alex let me stay over for 5 hours, burning 7 dvds. that saved me nearly 40gigs. i updated my dimpl script to actually work properly. i used it to verify that the dvd’s were properly burned. i also added new Digest::MD5 functionality. apparently File::Compare is either inaccurate, or i miss used it, because the md5sums came out right, but File::Compare reported them being different.

im also embarking on some really fun reverse engineering of a game. cant say what, when, how, where, or whom because that would a) spoil it, and b) get me in deep shit with the creators.

im off to pack, see you ladies later.

“laaa laaa la laaa la, the code that never ends”

seems im never going to finish this project at work. 5 months and still counting. some people have a way with words, as if they wanted it to make it look like they didnt want to be insulting, even though they blatently are.

im workin up to writing up the big marrige proposal story.

im also still waiting on raytheon, if they recommended me for an on-site interview, i should be getting it notified sometime soon. still finishing up my cover letter for IBM.

im currently trying to clean up my torrent box, trying to free up more room, so i can start downloading another dvd. im intentionally avoiding my work. i don’t even want to work on my ind. study any more, it’s rather dreadful.

landed an 83 on the OOS test, shoulda been a 100, but i felt very rushed during that test.

oh, and last bit of news, i found out what i will be working on for my OOS term project. dr. robbins gave me the choice of whom i wanted to work with, and if i wanted to continue to pursue a certain topic. apparently we are working on minitoring packages through reflection and such. i asked if setting up the reflection “tools” would be easier if we could simply delve into the function stack and find out all pertinant information that way. so she told me that JRE 1.5 has new techniques to do so, and that she wanted me to look into the monitoring tools of the new JRE. she also let me choose my partner, i chose Ford. this outta be more fun than i originally anticipated.

i’ll get to that marrige proposal story sometime soon.

it’s been a _long_ time since i last made a posting. what can i say, i guess it’s easier to get swamped with life.

lets kinda cover briefly the things that have happened since.

i am now on my last semester as a full-time student. i have 3 hours to be completed by the end of the summer, and that will be all i need for my degree.

i am currently taking architecture, stats for CS majors, object oriented systems, and an independent study with dr. boppana. i don’t like a single class im currently taking.

the independent study. i signed up to improve the performance of an application written by a bioscience professor at UT Health Services Center of San Antonio. there’s 100k lines of code to this app, and apparently code seperation was a bad idea to him. on top of that, he feels the need to explain to me how matrix multiplication works, or that i need to run his application to benchmark my code (that will later be inserted into his application). it sucks, and i regret not taking something else instead of wasting my last independent study.

object oriented systems is pretty bad. i really don’t feel like going into it, since she (kay robbins) is apparently aware of my homepage (which links to this). all i will say is that better planning is required, and im not a java evangelist. i’m not completely sold on the idea of object oriented design. don’t get me wrong, i think the GoF’s design patterns and most object oriented design ideas are good. i just don’t think java or c# is the answer to the problem. if java is the best the ooCrazies can come up with, then OOP is something that needs to phase itself out. i think the same ideas can be accomplished with proper code seperation, without the need for a fully OO language.

the most important thing that happened since the last post was that crystal and i got engaged! i bought her an exquisite diamond ring (.5c, VVS1, D colorless). i will make another posting about this later, as this is a long story i wanted to share.

i also made the dean’s list last semester with a semester gpa of 3.75 (got the B in tech2). this semester i may or may not make it, as i’ve been fairly unmotivated to perform in any of my courses.

half way into the semester, here’s the grades im lookin at:

object oriented systems: A (likely if i do well on the midterm)
computer architecture: A (borderlined B)
independent study: A (likely)
stats: A (likely if i do well on midterm2)

now this all depends on alot of factors. and since i still have 1 more midterm in both stats and architecture, it’s still hard to say. worse case scenario i get a B in arch and stats, which is still a 3.46. as long as i get at least 1 A i’ll be somewhat satisfied.

according to the university, my overall gpa is now 3.12, and my cs gpa is 3.84. that’s pretty good to me.

i’ve continued copying ford’s cd’s. and i think that hopefully i will be done soon. i am currently preparing for a massive burning session. on thursday i am going to alex’s to burn everything on my hdd that i want onto dvds. i’m then going to borrow as many of ford’s cd’s as possible, and just copy them to the hdd and burn them when i can. so far i’ve collected roughly a 200 and 264 cd binder’s worth of cd’s. when i finish burning his, i’ll move onto someone else and get their entire collection as well.

last semester, i completed my assignment to do a high performance audio extractor library. this summer, i will complete it, so i can rip all of these new cd’s.

one last thing, for christmas i recieved a sony 4x +/- dvd burner, and a GBA from crystal. i’ve fallen madly in love with my GBA and the burner is being sent in for repairs (broken ide pin). i also bought crystal a gamecube. i love nintendo.
