I was born and raised in Austin, TX. Austin is known for many things, one of which is that it is the self-proclaimed “Music Capital Of The World.” One thing that prides most Austinites is that on any day of the week, you can catch a good show.

The Washington Post has an article about how Austin’s Katrina influx is bringing a large and diverse jazz (and black) community. I’ve been enjoying jazz for a few years, so maybe I should pick up a Chronicle and see if there are any good shows coming through around the holiday vacation.

Ever wonder what actual gamers are like? BBC did a study to find out what gamers are like and what games they play.

There’s an interesting statistic was noted that is as follows:

  • All kids play games. (100% of 6-10 year olds)
  • The average age of all gamers is 28.

How can Nintendo stand a chance if everyone complains that they are too geared for kids, but 100% of kids play games?? They are clearly gearing their games towards the age-group that plays the most and people don’t like them for that. They can’t win for losing.

300th Post

Landmark event! This is the 300th post on this site!

Well, technically this count includes the posts that were imported from the old eightbitbastard blog.

None the less, I would still call this a landmark post. Other than that, no news to report here.

Lego Thief

There’s news that a guy, who is being coined the Lego Theif, was busted in Oregon. He apparently looted $200,000 worth of Legos (Star Wars brand) and earned $600,000. You have to give it to him, that’s some serious business skills. Albeit it’s not ethical or even legal, but he sure did turn a pretty penny on those Legos. Who would’ve thought that ripping off 10 sets a day would be profitable?

You would think that 10 Millenium Falcon sets in a single visit would tip off security a whole lot quicker.

The Washington Post has an interesting editorial about how the gargantuan error on made by the President and the United States Sentate is being downplayed.

I have to agree. The word ‘mistake’ is being thrown around too easily without any weight. Frankly, I wasn’t in support of the war from the get-go and I’m not in support of it now. Then again, I didn’t vote for this lame duck.

Teenager Repellant

Ever wanted to get rid of those annoying teenagers that hang around whereever you are? Good news, someone has invented a technology that will annoy them to the point in which they desire to leave.

You can check out the article at NYT (free registration required). I wonder if there’s one that will ward off old people as well. Bingo night would be more interesting!

Fortune magazine has an amusing take on the XBox 360 realease. The best point made is that most of the games for the XBox 360 are sequals. This has been a large complaint of most hardcore gamers that today’s games lack true ingenuity and originality. In fact, if you check out the launch list, 14 of 18 of the games are sequals. That means a meager 11% of games for the system are original. Wow, 89% of those games are rehashes and graphically-overhauled versions of their former self.

That’s just plain appaulling.
